On Dec. 3, the Avalon Lady Lancers Basketball team played in the world famous Staples Center in downtown LA.

This incredible experience was made to happen through Coach Hart of Avalon and Coach Anderlick from Crean Lutheran.  They wanted to set up an opportunity that their girls would remember for a life time. The Staples Center is where the LA Lakers, the LA Clippers, and the LA Kings play.  To make this happen both teams sold tickets to the Clippers game that night.  With the tickets the fans were able to come to both the high school and the pro game.

The game between Avalon and Crean Lutheran was a fun and exciting game to start both preseasons.  Both coaches did a great job of playing every member of their team for substantial amounts of time.  It was an experience they wanted all members to enjoy.  It was a 2 point ball game going into the 4th quarter and both teams ramped up their play.  With 41 sec. left, Avalon was down by 7.  They pressed and made steals leading to scores and with 3.2 sec. left trailed by 1.  Avalon set up a sideline out of bounds play for their best player Joanna Chavoya. She got the ball at the top of the key and took a one dribble shot with two people on her as time ran out.  The shot hit the back of the rim and bounced out and Avalon dropped their first game 45-44.  Chavoya ended the day with 16pts, Teryn Minuto and Selina Morones both had 10 pts.

Overall the experience and the game was a great day for both the players and the fans.  If you want to catch the Lady Lancers in action, they will be playing Rialto Friday, Dec 12 at 5 p.m. in the Avalon High School Gym.
