Fire drill held in Avalon

Regular and reserve Avalon fire personnel on Tuesday, April 16, stage a drill on a Sumner Avenue property that is scheduled for demolition.

Assistant Fire Chief Mike Krug said Parisi Builders donated the property, making it available for the drill. Krug said firefighters used a water-based smoke machine to simulate a fire.

The crew staged search and ventilation drills. Krug said the firefighters were able to inflict the sort of damage on the property that might be inflicted during an actual fire.

He said firefighters don’t often get the chance to do that in a training situation.
