Cops and kids to face off for a fun afternoon on Avalon links

The Avalon Sheriff’s Station has a fun outing with students from Avalon High School planned for today, Friday, July 20. They are going to play golf with them.

“This is something we wanted to do as we thought it would be a good way to get to know some of the students while sharing a common interest,” said Lt. Douglas Fetteroll, of the Avalon station. “We all agreed that it would be better to play with the students as opposed to against them as we want to build relationships with the youth in our community.”

The idea, according to the Sheriff’s Department, is to use the outing to help build bridges of communication with the community at large.
“Mr. (Steve) Hall, the golf coach, who will also be playing, has arranged a scramble format and put one deputy on each team of students, which will give us a chance to get to know the students better,” Lt. Fetteroll said. “Steve’s Steakhouse and the golf course are sponsoring the event and will donate the green fees to the high school golf team.”

According to Lt. Fetteroll, “We are scheduled to tee off at 0800 hours.” That’s 8 a.m. in layman’s terms.
