Chamber expects big Valentine’s Day weekend

The Valentine’s Day weekend is shaping up to be the first big weekend of the year visitor-wise, according to the Catalina Island Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau.

“It’s the first weekend of the season where we’re having trouble finding enough rooms for everyone,” said Samantha Prince, visitor services and operations manager for the Chamber.

To help matters along, the weekend is also combined with President’s Day, making it a three-day affair, so to speak.  Additionally, a superb weather forecast could help bring visitors out in droves.

“We could definitely say we’ve had an influx of calls,” said Prince.

“We’ve been on the phone all day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. trying to find rooms for visitors,” said Prince.

Cross-channel carriers are also reporting their schedules as being at or near capacity.

While there are no major events scheduled in the Casino this year, a number of local establishments are offering Valentine’s specials.  Several local hotels and restaurants will all be jumping into the Valentine’s Day action with specials and freebies.

“We hope that this early influx of excited visitors indicates just a great year to come,” she said.
