“We are offering flu shots on a number of days and times to make it more convenient for our patients,” Medical Group Office Manager Maryrose Coughlin said. “We hope that will allow more patients to receive the vaccine and be protected from influenza this flu season.”

The flu shots will be available to anyone between the ages of 4 and 18 for $5 and for those between 19 and 64 at a cost of $15.

Appointments will not be necessary, but there may be a short wait time depending on demand. While it will not take more than a minute to receive the vaccine, anyone receiving a flu shot for the first time should plan to stay for 20 minutes for observation.

During the flu shot clinic, a canopy will be set up outside of the medical group offices. Weather permitting, vaccinations will be administered there. In case of inclement weather, the clinic will be moved inside the medical group office. “The flu vaccine is the best way to protect against the flu,” Dr. Laura Ulibarri said. She and the other providers at Catalina Island Medical Center encourage anyone who would like to avoid getting the flu to get an influenza vaccine. Anyone under age three or over age 64 will need to make an appointment for their vaccine.
