For the Islander

The Catalina Island Foundation and Catalina Kid Ventures seem to be mutual admirers. CIF has been supporting CKV since 2014 when funds were allocated for a purchase of new playground equipment for toddlers.

In 2015 and 2016 CIF provided funds to resurface the playground area with safety material. Now its most recent donation of $2,300 will enable CKV to repair bathrooms and equip play area with new carpets.

The carpets are colorful, instructive and help keep children focused on where they are supposed to be during story time and nap time.

Providing quality care for children ages 18 months through 6 years old, CKV constantly strives to improve its facility so that childcare can be offered in a safe, comfortable and creative environment. Although parents, staff and board members continue to hold many fundraising events and find ways to provide equipment and educational toys for children, certain expenses are much higher than CKV’s modest budget and this is where CIF has been able to help.

“CKV is a public agency that serves children, parents and the community of Avalon, and we need financial support from time to time to maintain the quality of services provided to these families,” said Carol Burcombe, CKV preschool director. “We are extremely grateful for CIF’s kind and thoughtful donation and its constant support of our community.”

CIF supports youth groups, scouting programs, school field trips, health initiatives, substance abuse education and remediation, sports and performing arts organizations, and college scholarships. Funding requests are accepted on a regular basis from all non-profit civic groups working to improve the quality of island life.
