Sandra Putnam

Age 72 and 72 years on the Island

My experience includes  working 12 years at Pavilion Lodge & Atwater; planning coordinator Wm. Pereira Architect; various major real estate developers; Carson Plumbing (family business in Avalon); Currently managing my family's property in Avalon.  I have been active with the LA Plumbing,Heating,Cooling Assn.&, Contractors State License Board, and various volunteer and charitable groups. I understand business, budgets, etc. but my best qualification is that I care about Avalon and have knowledge, ability and desire to contribute.

I am not part of nor beholden to any group, no conflicts of interest.  I can and will vote on every issue – but only after considering all facts and information.

I am concerned about current issues affecting Avalon and about issues in the near future or on the horizon, including:

*The water issue will always be with us, We have big problems now, we will always need to be working on new and better methods and solutions

*City fiscal oversight and balanced budgets.  Fair, competitive and fiscally responsible city salary levels are a high priority

*Growth and development need to be carefully considered with infrastructure in place before implementation.  Smart, sustainable developments will create new jobs and hopefully housing.  Adequate housing is part of the infrastructure necessary for future growth and development.

*Adequate housing is clearly important and needed. A Housing Authority exploring all avenues of help to speed up new housing should be implemented ASAP.

*Vocation training and enrichment programs could give Islanders, especially younger ones, ways to stay on the Island with decent jobs and salaries, staying with and creating their own families.

*Close to 60% of our population identifies as Hispanic.  Many speak English, but some speak little or no English. To progress and improve City information should be translated into Spanish –  in weekly updates at the very least- and possibly form discussion groups to allow Spanish speakers to be a full part of our town and collective future.

What are your concerns, ideas and thoughts?  I would like to hear from you – I want to represent and be available to everyone in Avalon – I will listen to anyone with any point of view, and if elected  will present your views and thoughts to the City.
