On Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 Rolling Hills Prep came into Avalon for the league championship but the game would be lopsided with Avalon losing 48-14. That game stayed on the minds of the Lancers returning players and last Friday afternoon, Sept. 7, the Avalon Lancers made sure that this game would not end the same way.

The Lancers traveled to San Pedro and with a focused mindset took on the Huskies for the annual rivalry. This was a back and forth, hard fought game with both teams battling it out.

The game was tied 18-18 at halftime and the game continued that way through the second half. At the end of regulation the score was tied 26-26 and Rolling Hills Prep won the toss to receive in overtime.

Avalon’s defense came in clutch, making a strong stand and forcing the ball over on downs.

Avalon’s offense then rushed the ball for 25 yards with the final touchdown by Beto Martinez, sealing the victory.

QB Jose Gomez had another great game, racking up over 120 yards and RB Jason Campos racked up more than 160 yards. The Lancers defense is making its name known with another 6 sacks this week, spearheaded by DE Cristo Hernandez as well as the D-Line duo of Diego Rios and Calvin Rios making it nearly impossible to stop the Lancer rush.

Avalon (2-0, 1-0 League) travels to Huntington Beach on Saturday for a league game against Brethren Christian.
