Avalon golf team continues to dominate

The Avalon High School Boys Golf Team is once again at the top of the San Joaquin Valley League and looks like a good bet to win their third consecutive league title.

The Lancers are led by seniors Gabe Hernandez, Ricardo Tamayo, Bryan Jimenez, and Juan Pablo Bravo. Juniors Anthony Hernandez Perez and Luis Herrera have contributed as well along with newcomers, freshman Anthony Hernandez and Chase Atchison.

Gabe Hernandez is without a doubt our best golfer and definitely ranks at the top of the list of all-time great Avalon junior golfers. He usually shoots even par at home and has even finished with under par rounds. Just last week he scored an incredible 3 under par 29.

Gabe’s younger brother Anthony has shown a lot of promise as well and should keep Avalon golf competitive for a few years. His scoring average at home is around 36, also a great number. The Lancers are a good team also because of the steady play of seniors Ricardo Tamayo and Bryan Jimenez.  Tamayo has played in position number two for most of the season turning in some great scores while Jimenez has been steady keeping the ball consistently down the middle. Junior Anthony Hernandez Perez is probably our most improved golfer and really makes us a strong team when he plays well.

The Lancers are now 6-0 and have four matches left before competing in the League Individuals and hopefully in the C.I.F. Regional Playoffs. In addition they send four golfers to the mainland on Wednesday, April 10, to compete in the annual Knabe Cup, which takes place at Lakewood Country Club. This is a tournament consisting of 36 schools and believe it or not the Lancers are former champions. Maybe this year they will bring home the silver cup again. Good Luck Lancer Linksters!
